The term "Ratcatcher" goes back to Victorian days in England and was a term used for a person who was a "professional pest control" most of the time using dogs to catch rats. The terrier man in fox hunting was often referred to as the ratcatcher, because they used terriers to catch their prey. The traditional attire of a professional terrier man was tweed coat, hence why we call the attire during cubbing season Ratcatcher. Most traditional Ratcatcher attire consists of: a tweed or solid coat (of various colors besides Navy, Black or Scarlet), a colored stock tie, a colored long sleeve shirt, a tattersall vest, crochet or brown gloves, beige or rust breeches, brown field boots, and a brown velvet helmet. Ratcatcher days are my favorite since you can really get creative with colorful tweeds and creative stock ties.
